How I decided to become Retoucher

I used to work in a big company, had a mundane five-to-nine job and couldn’t stand waking up early in the mornings as thousands of other people. Most of the time I felt unfulfilled, extremely bored and unchallenged. My work seemed not to satisfy me anymore. But it changed once I came back home from the office. In the evenings I turned into a passionate retouching enthusiast. Every day I couldn’t wait for my shift to end, rushed home like a crazy and was eager to learn something new about retouching. Time flew when I was watching numerous retouching tutorials and videos of famous retouchers on YouTube. Those were moments when I was endlessly filled with inspiration.

I always loved to be a part of a big team it wasn’t difficult to become a team player in a commercial photography.

After some time I realized that perhaps I was ready to start freelancing. But I had no idea how to implement my dreams into a real life. So I came to a decision that it would be nice to find a team of professionals and to join them in order to work for free.

As I’ve always loved to be a part of a big team it wasn’t difficult to become a team player in a commercial photography. Despite the fact that the financial rewards were slim at the beginning of my journey of learning, networking, practicing and growth, I truly enjoyed the process of creating something great in cooperation with real professionals from whom I learned. I was seeking  out the opinions of unbiased experts who I respected, so this team experience was a great investment into building my first portfolio. Later as my skills improved, my job got quite lucrative, offering me generous payments. This was one more proof that I was on the right track. So that’s how I step by step built some credibility and developed a wide net of contacts.

And last but not least being a retoucher helped me to follow two of my most important life values, which are freedom and opportunity to create. I am grateful to my job for allowing me to make a free choice every day. This choice concerns the type of work I do, people who surround me, my schedule, a general life planning and many other small things. Moreover, I enjoy being creative, which is the reason why I don’t have an only one retouching style. Each photo is a new story for me and a possibility to create something brand new. Luckily, I have never had doubts about the decision I`ve made. And I wish the thoughts I shared with you will get one of numerous motivation factors to choose a career in this field.
